The Halo Benders - The Rebels Not In (1998)
The last studio album by the collaborative effort of Calvin Johnson (Dub Narcotic Sound System, Beat Happening, K Records) & Doug Martsch (Built to Spill) is probably not the best one but still a classic. It was the follow up to there 1996 album "Don't Tell Me Now" but will never replace there "God Don't Make No Junk" album.
The Halo Benders' music is characterised by untraditional sounds, movements, and song structures. Additionally, the vocals of the baritone Johnson and the pitchy Martsch overlap often, even though often entirely unrelated. Johnson has said that the two write lyrics for songs largely independently.
This will never replace there first album but is still very hard to find on vinyl. I believe that last one I saw for sale online was for $40. Luckily my trusty record store, Treehouse Records had a copy for only $12 and it is great condition. This is one of my favorite records in my collection.
